WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
This course is designed for people wishing to carry out Portable Appliance Testing, to ensure electrical safety. It will train the candidate to a level of competence to inspect and test portable electrical equipment.
PAT Testing is a great way of ensuring that your electrical equipment is safe and fit for purpose. In-service inspection and testing is a way in which Duty Holders, employers, businesses and landlords can meet their legal obligation to maintain a high safety standard of their electrical appliances.

Overview
You will receive formal training and assessment in the safe working practices required. Upon successful completion of the course you will have knowledge of the following:
- Basic understanding of electrical connections, cabling, equipment and motors.
- Ability to use formulae in order to calculate the relationship between voltage, current and resistance in an electrical circuit.
- Use of PAT testing equipment.
- Recommended test procedures for both Class I & Class II Equipment, updated with easy to follow flow charts.
- Useful illustrations with reference to each of the test scenarios including:
- Earth Continuity Test (Class I)
- Insulation Resistance Test (Class I & II)
- Protective Conductor Current Measurement (Class I)
- Touch Current Measurement
- Flash Test (Withstand Voltage Test)
Further detail in relation to residual current device (RCD) testing, including current and maximum allowable trip times according to BS EN 61008

TEACHING AND ASSESSMENT
The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical work. You will be assessed through the day culminating in theory questions. All of our trainers are accredited.
The non-equipment based courses can normally accommodate 6 candidates depending on the course and level of experience.
As with all of our courses, we ask if the candidates can read and understand English. We can provide a translator for the entire course or just for the theory if necessary, but there is an extra charge and we need to know this at the booking stage.
QUALIFICATIONS / CERTIFICATION
Upon successfully completing the course you will be awarded a 4Safety certificate.
